When we found out that the Amphawa Floating Market is over an hour from Bangkok (by cab), we kinda regretted going. But after we were settled in, we didn’t. It’s fantastic – not crazy like some of the markets in Bangkok; if you want some breathing room and space without hordes of tourists, this would be for you.
The only thing I’d do differently now that we’ve been there is I’d stay in one of the many small guest houses directly on the market. They had some really cool looking places that were between $10-20/night – but the best thing to do would be to book it after you get there. Take a look around first. There are a lot of places – I can’t imagine anyone getting stuck without accommodation.
We had FUN when the market turned on after 4pm. We even went on a boat at night to look at the fireflies. Total magic. Maybe the boat ride even more than the fireflies.
