About

Welcome to Unpacking Disability

This space has grown and evolved since it began in 2007, but its heart remains the same: exploring what “disability” really means. From disability identity and culture to parenting, justice, and navigating the world as a disabled person—Unpacking Disability is a space for reflection, learning, and connection.

“Disability” is a big word, and this site is about getting to know it better.

What You’ll Find Here

Unpacking Disability offers a mix of personal reflections, opinion pieces, interviews, and practical resources. You’ll find honest conversations—some uncomfortable, some comforting—all grounded in care, curiosity, and justice. This is a space that aims to be safe and supportive, with room for growth, grace, and real talk.

Longtime readers will also recognize personal stories woven throughout—because storytelling is part of how we make meaning, especially in community.
