January always feels as if it is a free trial for the new year, and as much as we try to make positive changes in our lives it can be hard to stay on track and make a real difference. Niqw that we are well into the new year there is no excuse to keep on practicing the same bad habits as you always did. Today we are going to take a look at and talk about some of the ways you can make yourself into a better version of you this year in small and big ways.
Stop comparing yourself
One of the most toxic things you can ever do for yourself during your life is to compare yourself to other people constantly. As humans we have this urge to be the best we can be and often this can make it hard for us when it comes to looking at others and the life they lead. Comparing our lives to others is being made much easier these days due to the presence of social media in our lives and this can be a bad thing for our confidence. You need to think about switching off from these channels now and again because it will help you appreciate what you have in your own life and this will make you a happier person as a result.
Don’t sweat the small stuff
One of the things which all too many of us can struggle with in life is taking criticism or dealing with people who mean to bring us down. When you start to grow a little older you begin to realise that there is a real value in becoming resilient and this us something which you really want to try and do to become a stronger person. When you learn not to let small comments get to you, you will be a much happier person for it and it can really make all the difference to you in every aspect of your life. Find the strength the ignore the negativity and you’ll be better off for it.
Stop procrastinating with every part of your life and just do it. We spend far too much time thinking about doing things and not enough time making them happen. If you want to make sure that you are successful in life it is important that you get up and take chances when they are put in front of you. You never know until you try something and giving it a go might be the best thing you have ever done. Take a chance on what you want to do and it could be something which genuinely changes your life forever.
Ask people about their day
Sometimes the path to becoming a better person is also about thinking of others before yourself. When it comes to being a better person on the inside and out it is important to think about others just as much as yourself. This means you should take the time time ask your colleague, friend or family member how their day was and this will make them feel valued and like you care. You’ll be able to come much closer bonds with the people around you by doing this simple step.
See the good in life
Honestly when life gives you lemons it can be hard to think for second about making lemonade. Life can be incredibly stressful every day and it can d hard for us to get past the bad stuff to see the good. When things aren’t going your way it can feel as if there is no silver lining but there is always something. If you are working on a project and it is out of your normal remit, sure it’s hard but you are learning something new. Take the good out of every situation and it will help you to be a happier person overall.
Thank the bus driver
When it comes to being a good person and one who is happy, you need to think about the small things you do as well as the big. Sure, grand gestures of kindness can be great, but sometimes a smile or a thank you can go a long way to making someone’s day. Be patient with cashiers and smile when you see them, thank the bus driver when he gets you where you need to go… be a more open and sociable person and this can really make a difference.
Ignore the news… for a while
It is important for us to keep on track with the news and current events every day, but it is also sometimes incredibly depressing to listen to. If your mornings consist of listening to news about Brexit and Trump and sad stories it can set you up for how you feel during the day and influence the way you feel in general. Be sure that you take the time back from this morning routine and use it to do something else. The news can sometimes just be sad white noise which we don’t need to hear.
Stay off social media
Social media is a great way to stay connected with people all over the world and learn about events, but it is also a place where we can be bullied and argue and feel like we are lesser than others. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and your happiness is to get rid of social media for a little while and have a break from it. Delete the apps from your phone for a month or so and stay away from your computer and live your life in the moment instead. This can honestly make a massive different to your mental health because you have more time to focus on your own needs and to appreciate the life you have around you without comparing it to other people.
Use natural medicine
Natural medicine can consist of anything from CBD oil to essential oils and methods such as acupuncture. If you want to become a little less reliant on medicine and be able to heal yourself and stay strong this year it is a good idea to try some more natural methods of healing. If you can’t sleep for example spill some lavender oil on your pillow instead of taking sleeping pills. There are tonnes of great home remedies you can try which use natural ingredients and work amazingly.
Eat less meat
We aren’t preaching that you should all go vegan right away so don’t panic, but eating a little bit less meat in your diet this year can be a good way for you to stay lean, to keep your body happy and to also put less pressure on the environment. Unfortunately producing meat takes a lot of different processes and these all harm our environment with greenhouse gases. By reducing the meat we eat each week we are saving a little of these gases and it can be helpful for our planet and well as our stomachs.
Put your phone away
The mobile phone is a permanent accessory for most of us these days and you will be hard pushed to find someone who doesn’t have a mobile phone with them wherever they go. But to be a little better this year it can be a good idea to put down the phone now and again and see the world through your own eyes for a change. Taking in the world we live in and living in the moment is something which is so underrated these days but it can make all the difference to you if you want to feel more in touch with yourself and with the world.
Take back your time
Stop scheduling activity upon activity and then complaining that you have no time to relax! If your weekly schedule is always jam packed and you never feel as if you have time for yourself, it is time to weed out some of these activities and think about taking back your time for yourself. We all need to be able to relax now and again and it will honestly make a huge difference to your life.
Take a course
If you are finding yourself struggling to move on in your career and your life in general this year it might be a good idea for you to think of taking a course. Course come in all shapes and sizes and you can find something which will teach you pretty much any skill you need. If you want to learn how to cook better for your family you can take a class, perhaps you want to learn business so you can climb the career ladder… whatever it is that you need to do for your life you can. Taking a course can even allow you to ditch your current career plans and try something totally new, and it could be the best thing that ever happened to you.
